Professor Gérard Saillant is a specialist in sports medicine. He was head of the orthopedic and trauma surgery department at the CHU La Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris, where he worked for 30 years between his appointment as professor in 1977 and his resignation in 2005. He was also dean of the Medical Faculty of the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital between 1998 and 2005. Today he is President and founding member of the Paris Brain Institute (ICM). He has been involved in politics and professional sports, having been an advisor to the French Minister of Sports and the official physician of the French Olympic team for the 1980-90’s Olympic Games. His extensive experience in sports medicine has led him to operate on internationally renowned athletes. He is also a member of the medical board of the Parisian football club PSG.
